Week Beginning 05/05/25
What another brilliant week we've had in Year 5! From angles to athletics, globes to games, there's been so much to explore, learn and enjoy.
Geography –
This week in Geography, Year 5 became world explorers! Using globes, they revisited the seven continents and five oceans, and learned more about the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Year 5 also explored the different climate zones around the world, thinking about what it would be like to live in a polar, temperate, or tropical region.
Maths –
In Maths, Year 5 have been deepening their understanding of shapes and angles. The class can now identify and describe obtuse, acute, right, reflex and straight angles. They also practised turns – quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns – and how they relate to angles in a circle. It’s been great to see how confident everyone is becoming!
English –
Year 5's journey with Viking Boy continued in English, and the class has been working hard on building character and setting descriptions. Year 5 have explored how to use powerful adjectives, similes and sensory details to make their writing more vivid and exciting.
PE –
In PE, Year 5 have been sharpening their athletic skills. From speedy sprints to smooth baton changes in relay races, everyone has shown great enthusiasm, teamwork and determination.
RE –
We were very lucky this week to have one of our teaching assistants share her personal experiences and spoke to us about the values of equality in the Sikh faith. It was an inspiring session, and the children asked some thoughtful questions about beliefs, fairness, and treating others with respect.
