Week Beginning 03.03.25
As part of World Book Week, Year 5 have had the fantastic opportunity to immerse ourselves in a variety of fascinating Brazilian tales. We delved into the world of Boitata, the guardian snake of the jungle, and Curupira, the protector of the forest. These stories sparked our imaginations and helped us improve our narrative skills. Year 5 have worked hard to uplevel their vocabulary, incorporating both vivid descriptions and engaging dialogue into our own versions of these stories.
We also continued our reading journey with The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. The children have been incredibly engaged with the story, providing insightful inferences and making great predictions about what might happen next.
As part of our World Book Week celebrations, we explored ancient stories in Religious Education (RE), investigating the meanings behind traditional tales from around the world. It was interesting to learn how different cultures use stories to explain the world around them and convey important lessons.
In Maths, we’ve been diving into the world of decimals. We’ve been exploring equivalent fractions for tenths and hundredths, which is helping us build a deeper understanding of how fractions and decimals relate.
Our science lessons have been just as exciting, with a focus on plants and flowers this week. We recapped the parts of a plant, learning about their different functions, and even got the chance to dissect a real flower! This hands-on activity really helped us appreciate the intricate structures that help plants grow and thrive.
Finally, we couldn’t forget the fun of dressing up for World Book Week! It was fantastic to see how involved everyone was in their costumes, with many Year 5 pupils coming dressed as their favourite characters from books. It truly added to the excitement and spirit of the week. We also had the opportunity to share our love of reading with our Reception buddies, reading with them and sharing some of our favourite books. It was so lovely to see the younger children get excited about reading too!
World Book Week has been a great success, and Year 5 has shown incredible enthusiasm, creativity, and curiosity throughout.
